Independent Breastfeeding and Parenting Support from Sarah Oakley,  International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Registered Nurse and Health Visitor and Tongue-Tie Practitioner.

I visit familes in their own homes, as well as running various groups and clinics.

Lactation consultant

I can provide private home visits to help with a range of issues including: latching difficulties, sore nipples, mastitis, thrush, concerns about milk supply and weight gain in addition to premature babies and babies with special needs, twins and other multiples.

I can assess and treat tongue tie privately, both in the home and in my fortnightly Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds clinics. I run breastfeeding workshops for expectant parents which can be provided either in groups or individually. I also offer free breastfeeding support through the groups I run within East Cambridgeshire and can assist with breast pump hire.

Tongue-tie division

Tongue-tie affects around 1 in 10 babies and can cause significant feeding difficulties in breastfed babies. It can also have a negative impact on feeding in bottle fed babies, although this is less common.

Division of tongue-tie (frenulotomy) is a simple and safe procedure which can be performed in the home or in my Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds clinics on babies up to 6 months of age. Tongue-tie division leads to an improvement in feeding for the majority of babies and helps to ensure mothers can continue to breastfeed.

Other services

I offer a range of additional services to help parents and babies including baby led weaning workshops, Baby Led Weaning workshops, Understanding Sleep workshops for parents of babies aged 0-6months and 6-18 months as well as providing help and support with behavioural issues such as sleep, eating, toileting and difficult behaviour in toddlers and pre school children.

I also utilize the Brazleton Newborn Behavioural Observation System, a simple evidence based process which gives your baby a voice and helps you get to know each other in the first 12 weeks.
